OMG…these No Bake Chocolate Maca Protein Doughnuts are insane!! Is it Doughnuts or Donuts? Growing up in Salem, MA there was a Dunkin’ Donuts on every corner and sometimes even 2. Going back there to visit now they seem to have quadrupled! I remember when they first made their way to the West Coast and people were going bonkers. Mostly those from the East Coast, obviously! But I actually think that both ways of spelling are correct.
Okay, enough about that, these No Bake Chocolate Maca Protein Doughnuts are seriously delicious! My husband and i can’t get enough of them because not only do they totally hit the sweet spot, but they are high in protein, contain no added sugar and are Vegan, Gluten Free & Paleo!! Now can you see why we are going absolutely crazy over them!
Another special twist to these donuts is that they contain Maca Root Powder. If you aren’t familiar with Maca, it’s a root that is grown mainly is South America, particularly in Peru and is typically sold in powder form. Although some people find that Maca has an unpleasant taste, i happen to LOVE it. I find it tastes slightly malty which makes for an interesting combination in chocolate desserts.
But taste aside, it has a host of incredible health benefits. One in particular is for hormone health. Maca is thought to increase fertility (in both Men and Woman), improve sexual function, and increase energy. It it also known to boost the immune system, improve memory and mental focus. Not bad for a stinky powder, eh!
For more information on Maca, i’d check out Dr. Axe’s post Here. It’s pretty comprehensive with lots of good info!
So back to the Donuts!!
You’ll need a donut mold or silicone donut cups. Check out these from Amazon

Here’s the full recipe:
No-Bake Maca Chocolate Protein Doughnuts
Makes 6 Donuts
For the Donuts:
2 cups, packed and pitted soft dates
3 Tablespoons coconut oil
1/4 cup maca root powder
1/4 teaspoon cinnamon
1 generous pinch sea salt
1/3 cup creamy and unsalted all natural butter
1/2 cup vegan chocolate protein powder
For the Chocolate Drizzle:
1/4 cup melted vegan chocolate with 1 teaspoon coconut oil
Generously oil 6 donut tins with coconut oil or coconut oil spray and set aside.
Place the dates in a food processor and pulse. Next add the coconut oil and process until the dates form a thick paste. Now add the maca root powder, cinnamon and sea salt and pule again. Scraping down the sides occasionally.
Finally add the nut butter and protein powder and process until everything is well combined.
Place about 3 -4 heaping Tablespoons of batter into each donut tin and set in the freezer for about 1 hour.
Remove from the freezer and let sit for 5 minutes before removing the donuts, this will take a little effort. Carefully, using a butter knife, go around the donut and unstick from the side, then gently ease it out.
Place all 6 donuts on a wire cooling rack over a baking sheet and then melt your chocolate chips in a bowl with the coconut oil. You can do this in a microwave at 30 second intervals or over a double boiler.
Drizzle the melted chocolate over each donut and place in the freezer one more time to set. Store these in an airtight container in the fridge or freezer, but they will be most enjoyable if left out at room temperature for about an hour before indulging!!
